Home-ready winter tips!
With Autumn’s nip in the air, it’s time to start getting your home ready for
winter’s chill. Here are some tips to get your home winter-ready:
1. Turn on your furnace to ensure that it’s in working order. Call your fuel
provider to service your heating system.
2. Change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide
detectors.
3. Fill your oil or propane tank or make arrangements with your fuel
provider to get your home set up for automatic delivery.
4. If you heat with wood, make sure it’s accessible when the snow falls.
5. If your thermostats run on batteries, install new ones.
6. If you have a programmable thermostat, set it up so it’s ready to go when
the cold weather sets in.
7. If your property is seasonal, and you will not be using it this winter, drain
the systems and winterize the house.
8. Consider installing temperature monitors, especially if you will not be at
the home for extended periods of time.
9. Make arrangements to have your driveway plowed and the walks
shoveled.
10. Clear your walkways of leaves and other debris
11. Clean leaves out of your gutters
12. Make sure your storm doors and windows are operable
